Awaken • Young Adults

Why is this initiative needed at this time in Kansas City?
In Kansas City, over 85% of people are not active in any faith community, and among young adults, this number is even higher. As recent college graduates transition into adult life, many find themselves disconnected—relationally, spiritually, and geographically. Awaken is designed to meet young adults right in this gap. With loneliness, isolation, and a hunger for purpose on the rise, this generation is longing for something real. Awaken responds by helping them find Jesus, community, and a sense of calling where they live, work, and play.

How is this initiative a catalytic solution to the problem?
Awaken is more than a gathering—it’s a disciple-making community fueled by young leaders and seasoned mentors. Over a six-month rhythm, participants are trained and sent to reach their peers through social spaces, digital platforms, and Discovery Bible Studies. It’s designed to multiply. By mobilizing young adults as missionaries to their own generation, Awaken turns a moment of disconnection into a movement of disciple-makers who can reach people no one else is reaching.

How does this initiative bring beauty, justice, and the Good News of Jesus to Kansas City?
Through Awaken, beauty is restored as young adults discover their identity in Christ and invite others into spiritual family. Justice is pursued as the lonely and overlooked are seen, known, and loved in practical ways. And the Good News of Jesus spreads not from pulpits but from porches, coffee shops, and text threads—everyday places where the Kingdom of God takes root. Awaken is helping a generation rediscover Jesus—and in doing so, helping Kansas City flourish.
