“After preaching the Good News in Derbe and making many disciples, Paul and Barnabas returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch of Pisidia, where they strengthened the believers. They encouraged them to continue in the faith, reminding them that we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God. Paul and Barnabas also appointed elders in every church. With prayer and fasting, they turned the elders over to the care of the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.” Acts of the Apostles 14:21-23
In the early church, we see Paul and his companions circle back to appoint elders within the church families that emerged from their disciple-making. They did this with prayer and fasting. The hubs of the Kansas City Underground seek to follow the example of the early church in this manner.
We believe that the role of an elder is not to manage day-to-day ministry, but to guard the integrity, values, and theological faithfulness of the network. Elders will support with wisdom in conflict resolution, church discipline, and theological discernment among the microchurches in their hub.
