Nick Grim • Disciple Maker
When a Sales Call Became a Gospel Conversation
In this story from the KC Underground Network, Breanna Wiebe sits down with Nick from the Independence Hub to share how ordinary work rhythms can become powerful opportunities for disciple-making.
“You don’t just need a savior—you need a king you can share your burdens with.” — Nick Grim
Nick’s job takes him into three to five homes every day, helping people with their cell phone services. What started as a routine sales interaction with a man named Alex quickly turned into something much deeper. After meeting casually—first at a gas station and later at a McDonald’s—their conversation shifted from phone upgrades to life struggles, faith, and the search for meaning.
As Alex opened up about his frustrations and spiritual beliefs, Nick shared his own faith journey and introduced a different framework: not just Jesus as a helper or teacher, but Jesus as King. Right there in the middle of McDonald’s, Alex recognized the truth of what Nick was sharing and decided to give his life to Christ.
Since that moment, Nick has continued walking with Alex through consistent check-ins, prayer, and encouragement. Even across a long distance, Nick is now helping connect Alex to local discipleship relationships so his faith can continue to grow in community.
This story captures a key reality of the KC Underground: disciple-making doesn’t require special programs—just faithful presence, spiritual awareness, and a willingness to follow the Spirit into everyday conversations.
