Nothing Can Separate Us from God’s Love

When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him. After God made that decision of what his children should be like, he followed it up by calling people by name. After he called them by name, he set them on a solid basis with himself. And then, after getting them established, he stayed with them to the end, gloriously completing what he had begun.
So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:
They kill us in cold blood because they hate you.
We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one.
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.
Before Jesus lived a public live of ministry, the Father spoke these words over Him for all to hear:
“This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
The Father was ensuring Jesus knew, and everyone else knew that Jesus’ identity was secure. His worth was in who he was, not what he did.
The same is true for us. We are the Beloved. God’s Sons and Daughters. Nothing, absolutely nothing can separate us from his love.
And yet, it seems so much of our lives is spent trying to earn what God has already given. We hurry because we fear falling behind. We work harder because we wonder if we are enough. We fill every quiet moment because silence can make us feel unproductive.
Know that in Christ, you are God’s beloved. The Father’s delight.
You are not loved because you are useful.
You are not accepted because you are successful.
You are not cherished because you have everything together.
You are loved because the Father has created you in his image and has chosen to love you.
When that truth begins to settle into our souls, our pace begins to change. We no longer have to rush to prove ourselves or anxiously chase after God. He is already with us. The Spirit already dwells within us. We can live from love instead of for love.
This is where the peace of God begins: not simply in slowing down, but in remembering who we already are.
Practice God’s Presence
For the remaining time you have set aside for prayer, empty your hands.
Set down your pen. Close your computer. Put down your phone.
Can you simply be present with Jesus?
Whether you sit quietly, go on a short walk, or slowly move through your home, resist the urge to accomplish anything. Let this become an hour of companionship rather than productivity. Friendship with Jesus instead of work for Jesus.
God is not waiting for a better version of you.
He is not rushing ahead, asking you to catch up.
He walks beside you, delighted simply to be with you.
Receive His presence.
Listen more than you speak.
Notice the beauty around you.
Feel the warmth of the sun, the movement of the breeze, the rhythm of your breath. Allow these ordinary gifts to remind you of God’s quiet, faithful presence.
If your mind wanders, gently return to these
simple words:
Beloved. Here. Enough.
Let them become a prayer that settles deep within your heart.
Pray:
As you return to the rhythms of your day, carry this awareness with you.
Ask God to help you move at His pace rather than your own.
Pray that His peace would shape your conversations, your decisions, and your responses to interruptions.
Ask Him to make Himself known through you, not merely by what you accomplish, but by the quiet confidence and gracious love that flow from a life rooted in Him.
Pray for the grace to see every person you meet as someone deeply loved by God, worthy of dignity, compassion, and hope.
Finally, entrust your day to the One who is already at work within you. Release both your successes and your unfinished tasks into His hands, trusting that He is able to accomplish far more than you could ask or imagine through a life surrendered to His presence.
We often imagine that if we could only move faster, accomplish more, or become better, we would finally experience God’s peace. Yet Jesus reveals another way. He walked without hurry because He never doubted the Father’s love. The One who called Jesus “Beloved” now speaks the same word over all who are in Christ. We do not practice a slower pace to earn God’s presence. We slow down because His presence is already here.
