Manifesto Value: The Whole World

When the KC Underground launched in 2019, part of our formation was to adopt the Underground Manifesto created by the Tampa Underground. The Manifesto is comprised of eighteen values that reflect our theological convictions. These values bind us together as a diverse and creative network. This prayer guide will cover one of those values.

Read: Spend some time slowly reading and rereading this value:

The Whole World

While we understand that our most transforming ministry will take place where we are planted and in our own city, we commit ourselves to the mission of God to reach the whole world. We believe that Jesus came as the savior, not of one people, but of the whole world. We value the world because we believe that God is a global God. We assume responsibility for the world, not because we believe we can reach it alone, but because we accept the mandate of the great commission and the heart of God to love and sacrifice for the discipleship of the whole world. We accept this apostolic mandate to send and be sent into every part of the world and our place in partnership with the global church.

Retell: As a practice to embrace what you are reading, grab a journal and write the value out in your own words.

Read: Choose at least 3 - 5 of the following supporting passages and read through them.

Biblical Foundation

Psalms 22:27, Psalms 24:1, Isaiah 41:9, Matthew 24:14, Mark 16:15, John 1:29, John 3:16-17, John 4:42, John 6:33, John 6:51 John 8:12, John 12:46-47, John 17:21, Romans 5:18, 2 Corinthians 5:19, 1 John 2:2, 1 John 4:14, Revelation 14:6

Consider: As you read and rewrote this value, what stood out to you the most? What did the Spirit highlight as you read the supporting passages from Scripture? What do you sense the Spirit is saying to you? Take a few minutes to journal your thoughts.

Pray: Now that you have had a few minutes to consider what the Spirit might be saying to you, turn these thoughts into prayers.

  • Perhaps it is a prayer of repentance: Jesus, I confess that I have often limited my view of Your mission to what feels close, comfortable, or convenient. Forgive me for forgetting that Your heart beats for the whole world and every person You have created. I repent for my lack of urgency in responding to the Great Commission, and for the times I have failed to pray for, support, or engage with Your global mission. Forgive me for any indifference to the suffering, lostness, or needs of people beyond my immediate reach. Jesus, reshape my priorities and awaken in me a deep burden for the nations. Teach me to love as You love and to live as one who carries the responsibility and joy of making disciples in all the earth.

  • Perhaps it is a prayer of invitation: Holy Spirit, I invite You to guide me and use me in the global mission of God. Open my eyes to the needs of the world and the opportunities to partner with the global church. Show me how to be both a sender and one who is sent, living out the apostolic mandate with faithfulness and courage. Holy Spirit, expand my heart to love all people as You do and to embrace the sacrifice required to see Your Gospel proclaimed in every corner of the earth. Let my life reflect Your global purpose and Your unwavering love for all nations.

  • Perhaps it is a prayer for partnership and unity: Father, I pray for the unity and strength of the global church as we work together to fulfill Your mission. Bless the partnerships between churches, missionaries, and ministries so that they may be marked by love, humility, and shared purpose. Lord, let the global body of Christ reflect Your heart and Your kingdom, demonstrating to the world that we are one in You. Equip us to carry out Your work together, embracing the diversity of cultures and gifts You’ve given us for the sake of Your glory.

Each of these simple prayers can be a springboard into more. Use the thoughts you journaled above to help guide your prayers. Take some extra time today to pray for our larger network in the city, that we would not neglect the global mission of God, partnering with the global church and faithfully sending and being sent to proclaim the Gospel to every nation.

Respond: If Jesus highlighted a particular way for you to respond in obedience to Him today in light of this value from the Manifesto, consider sharing this response with another disciple-maker.
