Love, Humility and Forgiveness
Today, as the Underground, we come together in prayer and fasting, collectively joining our hearts in a “laser-focused” way.
Today’s Prayer Theme: Romans 12:9-21
We have become upside-down. We avoid our neighbors when we see them at the grocery store, but we seek out conflict with strangers on our phones. Our lives are complex, and our relationships have become so complicated, and our view of our neighbors has been distorted through a broken lens.
Today, as we pray together for our city, and each other, we look to God’s word as a guiding light for us. We pray together that we can grow in our Love, Humility and Forgiveness.
How to love our friends
Read: Romans 12:9-13
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

How to love those who are different from us
Read: Romans 12:14-16
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

How to love those who have hurt us
Read: Romans 12:17-21
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Pray
Lord, we’re sorry for all of the times we’ve failed to love our neighbor well. Today, we pray for those we love, those who are different from us, and those who have hurt us. We want to be more attentive, humble, and sincere in our love. Guide us Lord.
