Living the Greatest Commandment in Mission

Introduction: Aligning with God’s Will

Reflect on Matthew 22:35-40: Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind. The second is to love your neighbor as yourself. Let this guide be a time to realign ourselves with these commandments as we serve God as missionaries in the Kansas City Underground.

Praise and Adoration

Prayer focus: Praise God for His guidance and sovereignty in mission work.

Scripture:

Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. Psalm 96:3

Reflect on the beauty of God’s creation and His work through you. Praise Him for the opportunity to bring the Good News to others.

Personal Reflection and Repentance

Prayer focus: Examine your heart and bring any areas of failure or struggle to God.

Scripture:

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9

Ask yourself:

Am I loving God with all my heart, soul, and mind?

Am I loving my neighbor as myself?

Is there something I need to repent of?

Let your repentance be quick and sincere, acknowledging any distractions or sins that hinder your mission.

Intercession for the Mission Field

Prayer Focus: Pray for those you are reaching and serving.

Scripture:

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.
2 Corinthians 5:20

Pray for the hearts of those you serve to be open to the gospel of Jesus. Lift up individuals by name. Pray for the people in your microchurch or your emerging microchurch.  Ask for wisdom, strength, and compassion as you share God’s love.

Strength and Encouragement

Prayer Focus: Pray for personal and communal strength in the mission.

Scripture:

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

Pray for strength in the face of challenges, for unity among your team, and clarity of vision in your mission efforts. Ask for the courage to continue being Christ’s ambassador even in difficult times.

Surrender and Trust

Commit the work and your lives to God.

Scripture:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

Take a moment to surrender your plans and efforts to God, trusting in His guidance. Close with thanksgiving, knowing He is faithful to complete the work he began in you.
