The Father’s Heart in the Lord’s Prayer

A guided prayer experience through the words Jesus gave us.

“This, then, is how you should pray…” – Matthew 6:9

Across our network today, as we fast together, we will move through Lord’s Prayer, phrase by phrase.  For each section:

  • Pause

  • Take the phrase into your heart.

  • Pray a simple, honest prayer asking the Father to help your heart receive, embody, and live that truth.

Each section will give you a sample “heart prayer” to guide you—and space for you to create your own. The goal is not just to say the Lord’s Prayer, but to let it reshape your heart as you pray it. Let’s begin.

“Our Father in Heaven”

Heart Prayer:

Abba Father, give me the heart of a child. Help me trust You—not as I’ve experienced brokenness in earthly parents, but as the perfect Parent You are. Heal my image of You. Let me rest in Your love.

Your Turn:

Ask: What does my heart need to receive You as Father today? Write or say your own heart prayer...

“Hallowed be Your Name”

Heart Prayer:

Almighty Lord, give me a heart that reveres You above all else. Let Your name, Your ways, and Your Word be set apart and exalted in my life—more sacred than my own desires, more central than my fears.

Your Turn:

Ask: What competes for reverence in my heart? Write or say your own heart prayer...

“Your Kingdom come”

Heart Prayer:

Glorious King, give me a heart that longs for Your Kingdom. Not mine. Not the kingdoms of this world. Let my heart ache for justice, for wholeness, for all things made new. Let me see my place in Your movement.

Your Turn:

Ask: Where do I need to surrender my own agenda for the Kingdom? Write or say your own heart prayer...

“Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”

Heart Prayer:

Good Father, give me a heart aligned with Your will. Even when it costs. Even when it’s hard. Make me a person who says “yes” to Your ways—who brings heaven’s beauty into earthly spaces.

Your Turn:

Ask: Where am I resisting Your will? Write or say your own heart prayer...

“Give us this day our daily bread”

Heart Prayer:

Faithful Provider, give me a heart that depends on You for today. Not tomorrow. Not next year. Help me trust You to meet today’s needs—with grace, strength, provision, and peace.

Your Turn:

Ask: What need am I holding right now that I can entrust to God? Write or say your own heart prayer...

“Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors”

Heart Prayer:

Merciful Father, give me a heart soft with grace. Let me receive Your forgiveness fully. Let it overflow into the way I release others—those who’ve hurt me. Set me free from bitterness.

Your Turn:

Ask: Who do I need to forgive? And where do I need to receive forgiveness? Write or say your own heart prayer…

“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”

Heart Prayer:

Protector, give me a heart that flees from compromise and runs to You. Help me see where the enemy’s lies try to take root. Deliver me from fear, addiction, self-reliance, and anything that pulls me from You.

Your Turn:

Ask: Where am I vulnerable? Where do I need Your deliverance? Write or say your own heart prayer...

“For Yours is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.”

Heart Prayer:

Majestic King, give me a heart that bows. Yours is the story, the strength, and the spotlight. Forever. Let my life point to You—not to me. May all that I do reflect Your glory.

Your Turn:

Ask: What do I need to lay down to exalt Jesus more clearly? Write or say your own heart prayer...

Final Reflection and Intercession

Sit quietly. Hold your prayers in God’s presence.

Let the Father speak back to you.

Let His heart shape yours.

Now, turn that into prayers of blessing over the entire KC Underground family.
