All of Creation, Including You, Is Renewed by God’s Spirit
Tuesdays are important corporate days of Prayer and Fasting for the Kansas City Underground alongside our friends throughout the world. As we finish the first half of 2023, we invite everyone to focus on a Psalm on the first Tuesday of each month. The chosen Psalm for this special Tuesday after Pentecost is one that our sisters and brothers in Jesus’ global Church around the world were filled with on Pentecost Sunday, May 28th. As God has poured out His Spirit on us to bring forth new creation and life, we get to sing with all of creation words similar to Tasha Cobbs Leonard’s “Your Spirit”: “ ...You are the fire, we are the temple. Your are the voice, we are Your song. You are our God, we are Your people. You are the Light, we stand in awe of You ...”
This week, we engage with Psalm 104, verses 24-34 (MSG), and we ask God to renew us by His Spirit, trembling and rejoicing together.
Read:
What a wildly wonderful world, God! You made it all, with Wisdom at Your side, made earth overflow with Your wonderful creations.
-Psalm 104:24, MSG
Reflect:
What seems wildly good to You right now? Where do you experience an overflow of wonderful creation?
Opening Praise:
Enter the holy wild with God. Praise Him for the good that flows in your life. Behold wisdom in it all.
Read:
Oh, look—the deep, wide sea, brimming with fish past counting, sardines and sharks and salmon. Ships plow those waters, and Leviathan, your pet dragon, romps in them. All the creatures look expectantly to you to give them their meals on time.
-Psalm 104:25-27, MSG
Reflect:
Look again at God’s wonderful creation. What do you admire? What stirs play in you? Satisfaction?
Pray:
Pray for the daily bread You need from God today. Look expectantly for Him to give what you need on time.
Read:
You come, and they gather around;
You open Your hand and they eat from it.
If You turned Your back, they’d die in a minute—
Take back Your Spirit and they die, revert to original mud; Send out Your Spirit and they spring to life—the whole countryside in bloom and blossom.
-Psalm 104:28-30, MSG:
Reflect:
Where do you need God to come and gather people? What do You need Him to open His hand for?
Pray:
Ask God to turn His face to where you see mud and death. Ask Him to send His Spirit to blossom life.
Read:
The glory of God—let it last forever! Let God enjoy His creation! He takes one look at earth and triggers an earthquake, points a finger at the mountains, and volcanoes erupt.
-Psalm 104:31-32, MSG
Reflect:
What was the last moment or encounter that stirred you deeply? When did you last erupt with praise?
Pray:
Pray towards God’s glory. Don’t hold back praise. Make bold statements. Engage in recognizing His power.
Read:
Oh, let me sing to God all my life long, sing hymns to my God as long as I live! Oh, let my song please Him...
-Psalm 104:33-34, MSG
Closing Praise:
Listen to “Dry Bones (Come Alive)” by Lauren Daigle. Sing along. Ask God what He wants to make come alive in you right now. What comes to mind first? Then think about where you want to see life brimming right now. Is it in a person who needs Jesus? Is it in your love for a neighbor? Is it for your community to continue with steadfast faithfulness in the mundane? Is it beholding Jesus as the Master in your mess this week? Ask God to send the Spirit to spring life in the muck and mire. And with a waiting spirit, watch for what Jesus as the Gardener and Caretaker of your soul does to cultivate the Spirit’s life in you as you walk with Him. “...We call out to dead hearts, come alive ... We call out to dry bones, come alive ...Breathe, O breath of God, now breathe...” (also see Ezekiel 37:1-10).
