12 Weeks of Gratitude Prompts

Dear friends in the KC Underground,

Your tireless work in serving the Kingdom and reaching the unreached in the Kansas City area is nothing short of remarkable. The weight of ministry can sometimes lead to fatigue, so we lean into soul care to sustain our passion and endurance. This season, we focus on a holy habit that can refresh and renew: gratitude.

Gratitude is more than a feeling—it’s a powerful discipline that nourishes the soul, keeps us grounded in God’s faithfulness, and renews our strength.

Over the next twelve weeks, we’ll embark on a communal journey of reflection, each week exploring a prompt designed to help you see God’s grace in your life and ministry. Paired with Scripture, these reflections offer a simple way to practice soul care and cultivate gratitude together as a community.

As we contemplate these prompts across the network, we believe this time of reflection will refresh and unite us, empowering us for the mission ahead. Consider writing your reflections in a journal or sharing with a fellow disciple-maker.

  1. Reflect on a time when you experienced God’s faithfulness in your ministry. How did His provision strengthen your trust in moments of exhaustion?

Lamentations 3:22-23 – "Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."

  2. Think about a person who has been a blessing to you, whether it’s someone you serve or someone serving alongside you. How can you show them gratitude this week?

Philippians 1:3 "I thank my God every time I remember you."

  3. Pause to notice the beauty in your surroundings today—whether you are in a busy, noisy urban area, a quiet suburb, or a prison. What does creation reveal to you about God’s creativity and care?

Psalm 19:1 – "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands."

  4. Reflect on a challenging season in your life that, despite the hardship, led to unexpected growth. How did God shape you through this experience?

Romans 5:3-4 – "Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope."

  5. Consider a mentor, fellow leader, or someone in your microchurch who has encouraged you spiritually. How has their presence impacted your faith journey, and how can you express your gratitude?

Hebrews 13:7 – "Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith."

  6. What is a small, often overlooked blessing in your life—perhaps a shared meal, a kind word, or even a moment of rest? How can you practice noticing and thanking God for these everyday gifts?

James 1:17 – "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."

  7. Reflect on how God’s Word has sustained and guided you in recent weeks. In what ways has Scripture refreshed your spirit or provided clarity in your mission?

Psalm 119:105"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."

  8. Who in your microchurch community or broader KC Underground network has been a source of support or encouragement? How can you express gratitude for their partnership in the gospel?

Hebrews 10:24-25"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another."

  9. Recall a moment when you were the recipient of grace—whether from God, a friend, or someone you serve. How has this experience deepened your understanding of God’s mercy and love?

Ephesians 4:3"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."

  10. Think about your physical health and the abilities God has given you, even in the midst of tiredness or exhaustion. What is one thing you are grateful for today in terms of your strength or well-being?

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies."

  11. Reflect on a time when God answered a prayer in your life or ministry. How does this remembrance encourage you to trust Him with your current needs?

John 5:14-15 – "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us."

  12. As you consider your relationship with Jesus, what aspect of His love or presence are you most grateful for right now? How has He sustained you through the highs and lows of ministry?

Romans 8:38-39 – "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers… will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
