Independence 2024 Initiatives
City Flourishing through Community Care
Vision: Access the potential of every human becoming fully aware that they are the living expression of the Imago Dei through the journey of spiritual anthropology.
Mission: To see cities restored by creating where there is nothing, healing where there is brokenness, and joining where there is good.
Theme: Justice
We see The Independence Hub playing a role in the shaping of the inner framework of the human heart to see cities flourish through creating, healing and joining. We feel the health of a city is a reflection of the people who embody it. The potential for a city to flourish lies in the capacity to surrender to the journey of transformation and spiritual rebirth. We provide systems of holistic, integrative and tangible care, creating opportunities for good works, so that the Image of God may be realized within every human. We exist to serve neighbors, cities and the world.
We create meaningful containers for the message of Jesus to be transferred through the ordinary things of life, believing good works translate to good news opportunities. How? Through organic, intentional good works and equipping that is both flexible and adaptable for followers and not yet followers.
Create - Revitalization will come from within, out of the material of the people who inhabit the city.
Heal - Identifying barriers within our cities and how the beauty, justice and Good News of Jesus can subversively bless our communities and neighbors through holistic care.
Join - Establish relationships within the city, connecting individuals and communities with other non-profits, specialists, community leaders aend outside resources to see our cities restored.
Over the next five years, the Independence Hub is dreaming of two additional paid teammates joining our operational team as spiritual architects. After thoughtful listening and surveying, we desire to build relationships and collaborate with city partners. The funds would be used to bless, serve, train and equip our network, as well as others locally and globally. Frameworks of tangible care will organically form to support the spiritual architects in any home, city or organization.
Image + Story
*A glasshouse allows growth to take place while the conditions seem impossible; crops grow that otherwise couldn’t in certain climates because of how the sun’s light and heat is trapped:
Matthew 5:16 - In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.
A glasshouse differs from a greenhouse in that a glasshouse is intended to mainly be a space for people, plant life is secondary.
Glasshouses are traditionally made with a single material - glass, while greenhouses are made out of multiple materials; refining the motives of the church's heart in Kansas City.
Just as panels of a glasshouse are replaced over time, this work will continue on through generations; however the foundation and structure (the church) remain.
*Lea Wilson walks with immigrant refugees but hadn’t heard of Refuge KC. After connecting with a family who had been living in a park bathroom for a week, sharing a toothbrush and without food, several organizations came together to find housing, food, clothing and care for the children. With these needs met, Lea was able to continue walking with her emotionally and spiritually.
