Worship

Today, as the Underground, we come together in prayer and fasting. Every great move of God in the Bible and throughout history begins with Extraordinary Prayer and Fasting. From the other side of eternity, we will find that the most influential people were not, perhaps, Presidents or Prime Ministers, but the people who walked with God through passionate prayer.

Today’s Prayer Theme: Worship

When Jesus teaches His followers how to pray, His prayer begins with a simple phrase:

This, then, is how you should pray: “’Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, - Matthew 6:9

When I read the Lord’s Prayer, I’m convicted most by this verse. Prayer has to begin with worship. I’m scared by the number of times my prayer moves past worship of Him and goes straight to my expectations of Him. Today, we slow down and stand in awe of the Creator of the Universe.

We Worship Him Because Of His Majesty

Read

He will stand and shepherd his flock
in the strength of the Lord,
in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.

And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth.
- Micah 5:4

Reflect

Take a moment and silence yourself; read through this prophecy about the coming Messiah in Micah. What stands out to you about the majesty and sovereignty of God?

Pray

As you center yourself on the Father, thank Him for His majesty and His greatness that reaches the ends of the earth.

We Worship Him Because Of His Character Read

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
-2 Corinthians 5:21

Reflect

As you read this passage, what stands out to you about Jesus? What are the characteristics of God that shine through when you think about His life?

Pray

Thank Him for the ways His character has benefited your life. Tell him the characteristics He has that make Him worthy of your worship.

Lord, we repent of the times our prayer has lacked genuine worship. Today, we pray with our brothers and sisters across the city we love in awe and worship of you. Your grace is incomprehensible, your strength is overwhelming. We are enamored with everything that you are. We look to you with the faith and trust of a child, we need you desperately. Life without you is an empty promise, life with you is full life. We ask for a deeper outpouring of your beauty on our city, we need you desperately.

Spend the rest of your time today in an intentional act of worship. Maybe it’s a time of journaling, creative art, or contemplative prayer. Whatever helps to center His Lordship in your life.
