The God Worth Living for, Dying for, and Living Forever With

Tuesdays are important corporate days of Prayer and Fasting for the Kansas City Underground as we pray along with our family and friends throughout the world.

In North America, both All Hallows’ (Saints’) Eve, otherwise known as Halloween, and All Saints Day were just recognized and celebrated in all sorts of ways last week (for better and for worse). Today, we are taking a look at the Psalm on the first Tuesday of this month that was the recommended psalm for Jesus’ Church to reflect on during All Saints Day, the day when those who lived and died for the sake of the praise of Jesus and for the love of people are remembered.

Some of us might not have been taught to give much attention to All Saints Day in light of Halloween’s festivities and missional opportunities, but most of us who read
and use these prayer guides are interested in every child, woman, and man having a holy encounter with Jesus so they can follow Him in becoming who they are as children of God, friends with the King, and witnesses through the Spirit. This type of holy communion with God worth living and dying for is what All Saints Day is all about as we remember those who died courageously confident in that communion that would overcome death despite those who wanted the Good News of Jesus silenced.

Psalm 34 gives voice to what many of our family of saints were not willing to silence so that others would sing the Lord’s praises, including us today. May your November
be holy (set apart) with freedom from all fears, including death, as you praise God as a smiling saint in light of Jesus, who is worth living for, dying for, and living forever with.

Theme: The God Worth Living for, Dying for, and Living Forever With

Today’s scriptures: Psalm 34:1-10 in the NLT, The Message (MSG)

Read: Psalm 34:1-3:

NLT: I will praise the LORD at all times. I will constantly speak His praises. I will boast only in the LORD; let all who are helpless take heart. Come, let us tell of the LORD’s greatness; let us exalt His name together.

MSG: I bless GOD every chance I get; my lungs expand with His praise. I live and breathe God; if things aren’t going well, hear this and be happy: Join me in spreading the news; together let’s get the word out.

Reflect:

How can you praise God today? Who could you praise God with? What of His Word can you share?

Pray:

Ask God to reveal who you are supposed to spread the news of His greatness to this week.

Read: Psalm 34:4-7:

NLT: I prayed to the LORD, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to Him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. In my desperation, I prayed, and the LORD listened; He saved me from all my troubles. For the angel of the LORD is a guard; He surrounds and defends all who fear Him.

MSG: GOD met me more than halfway, He freed me from my anxious fears. Look at Him; give Him your warmest smile. Never hide your feelings from Him. When I was desperate, I called out, and GOD got me out of a tight spot. GOD’s angel sets up a circle of protection around us while we pray.

Reflect:

When were you recently freed from fear? What does “radiant with joy” look like in your life?

Pray:

Thank God for a time He listened and saved you from trouble. Praise Him. Smile at Him. Be free with joy.

Read: Psalm 34:8-10:

NLT: Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in Him! Fear the LORD, you His godly people, for those who fear Him will have all they need. Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the LORD will lack no good thing.

MSG: Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see—how good GOD is. Blessed are you who run to Him. Worship GOD if you want the best; worship opens doors to all His goodness. Young lions on the prowl get hungry, but GOD-seekers are full of God.

Reflect:

When do you taste and see that the LORD is good? When do you have all you need?

Pray:

Ask God to open the door to worship that helps you know, in life and in death, that you lack nothing holy.
