You Have All That You Need; You Lack Nothing; You Shall Not Want.

Tuesdays are important corporate days of Prayer and Fasting for the Kansas City Underground. As we continue in 2023, we invite everyone to focus on a Psalm on the first Tuesday of each month. The chosen Psalm for this Tuesday during Eastertide’s 50 days of joy leading up to Pentecost is one that our sisters and brothers in Jesus’ global Church around the world have focused on to close April and begin May. And it may just be the most popular Psalm throughout human history. We celebrate the Lord, who is our good shepherd in this Psalm because, like People & Songs sing during Psalm 23 (I Am Not Alone): “Hallelujah! I am not alone! He’s my comfort and always holds me close. ... Your Spirit lives within me, so I will walk in Your peace. Your Spirit lives within me — my victory! My victory!”

This week, we get to engage with Psalm 23 to be our song of victory in Jesus on this Tuesday during Eastertide.

Theme:

You have all that you need; you lack nothing; you shall not want.

Today’s scriptures:

Psalm 23, NKJV, NLT, and NIV

Read: Psalm 23:1

NKJV: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. NLT: The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need. NIV: The LORD is my shepherd; I lack nothing.

Reflect:

Which words above (i.e., not want; all; lack nothing) do you need to remember with the LORD today?

Pray:

Let the LORD shepherd you right now. What do you want? Need? Invite Him to reveal your lack of nothing.

Read:

He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Psalm 23:2-3, NKJV

Reflect:

Do you need to be made to lie down in humble stillness right now? Are you on a righteous path today?

Pray:

Let the LORD shepherd you. Listen. Be still. Ask Him to reveal the righteous path for you. Be led today.

Read:

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Psalm
23:4, NKJV

Reflect:

What are you afraid of? How might God’s rod (correction) and/or staff (direction) reveal He’s with you?

Pray:

Let the LORD shepherd you. Ask Him to confront any evil in you. Ask the Spirit to help and comfort you.

Read:

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Psalm 23:5, NKJV

Reflect:

When was the last time you asked for God’s anointing? Consider a time you need it this week.

Pray:

Let the LORD shepherd you. Where you see lack, danger, or fear, ask for His abundant anointing.

Read:

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Psalm 23:6, NKJV

Reflect:

When have you experienced goodness? Mercy? Where have you been welcomed home?

Pray:

Let the LORD shepherd you. Open yourself to receive His goodness and mercy for today. He’s your home.

Closing Praise:

Listen to “Psalm 23 (I Am Not Alone)” by People & Songs. Sing the words.

Listen to “The House of God Forever” by Jon Foreman. Sing the Psalm. Memorize and meditate on Psalm 23 throughout this month if you haven’t written it in your mind and on your heart fully yet. Pray it each day for the rest of May.

Jesus says to you, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep ... I am the good shepherd, and I know My sheep and am known by My own. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father, and

I lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.” (John 10:11, 14-16). Welcome Him again into your life today. Worship Him. Ask to be His witness so you can see other sheep enter His fold soon.
