Equality is at the heart of God.
Today, as the Underground, we come together in prayer and fasting. Every great move of God in the Bible and throughout history begins with Extraordinary Prayer and Fasting. From the other side of eternity, we will find that the most influential people were not, perhaps, Presidents or Prime Ministers, but the people who walked with God through passionate prayer.
Today’s theme: Equality is at the heart of God.
Polarization is our modern-day plague, bringing turmoil
to our culture and death to our souls. It seems there are more things that divide us as people than that which pulls us together. Our differences are ok and perfectly normal. Turning in rage or harboring resentment against another because they don’t believe what we do, look the way we do, or talk to God the way we do keep us locked in a never-ending battle for our ego, never dropping our guard or laying down our pride for the sake of the other. Looking within ourselves and to God, we must give up whatever hinders us from loving our neighbor as ourselves.
Read:
Read the following passages about unity and equality from the Bible:
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 3:28Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
Colossians 3:11But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.
James 2:9The rich and the poor have this in common: The Lord is the Maker of them all.
Proverbs 22:2For God shows no partiality.
Romans 2:11
These verses remind us that in the eyes of God, all people are equal and deserving of respect, regardless of their background or status in society.
Ask Yourself:
Is there a specific person you have a difficult time with? Write their name down.
or subculture within the realm of people you encounter daily? Write down what comes to mind. Do not judge yourself. God doesn’t judge you; he just wants to make you more like Jesus so you can love others the way he does.
Which of these verses speaks to your soul?
What does this verse say about God?
What does this verse say about you?
What does this verse say about other people?
Can you pray this verse out loud to God, asking him to bring you closer to him?
Pray God will change your heart and mind regarding those you strongly disagree with.
As you go:
As you go through the rest of your week, pray this dangerous prayer; it might bring you closer to the heart of God and to others who differ from you. You may also start to look and sound a lot more like Jesus.
Pray, “God bless _________ and change me.”
That’s it. Simple but powerful. Let your ego go, and lay down your pride and resentments. Let God bless others while he changes you.
Finally:
Read through the above passages again. Carry them with you today and as you live your life this week.
