Blessing Prayer Walk
Primary focus
This missional prayer experience focuses on three primary things:
Intercession for those around us by asking God what he is already doing and how we can join him.
Spiritual Battle and Blessing - engaging in aggressive, combative prayer focusing on taking back space and authoritatively blessing the people there.
Discovering the Person of Peace God is preparing in that community who is both open to the Gospel, and who can be the connector and gateway to other people.
Begin by taking authority
Prayer walking is an exercise in authority. As children of the most high God, we pray with power, knowing that we are ambassadors of God. This sort of prayer is not timid, but aggressive in nature, combative to the gates of hell. Authoritative prayer deals within the supernatural, as we expect to see God show up in power, through signs, wonders, and deliverance.
Pray covering prayer (see example to the right).
Take authority over the land by declaring responsibility and establishing authority in Christ.
Listen/ask what the Lord is doing in this place and what he wants you to pray or do. Obey any instructions he gives you regarding his strategy for this space.
Ask the Lord if there are any places you need to bind the enemy or ask him to remove evil.
Declare the Lord’s truths and blessings over this space.
Pray for personal cleansing from any schemes the enemy may want to bring over you and your family as a result of this prayer (see personal cleansing prayer example to the right).
Pray with a missional outcome of continued disciple-making.
Prayer reveals the people in whom God is already at work, and who is ready to respond to an invitation to discover God. Prayer is not the end goal, new disciple-making is the goal.
Be ready to engage with people you encounter, as these may be divine appointments.
If natural, explain to people what you are doing, saying something like, “We like to pray for our neighborhood,
is there anything we can be in prayer for you about?”Pray that the Holy Spirit would reveal Person(s) of Peace in the community. Persons of Peace are people who show spiritual interest and are relational connectors to others.
Be ready to extend an invitation to Discover what God says in the Bible to those who are spiritually interested. Invitations to begin Discovery Bible Studies arise out of natural relationships, and as a result of serving others and engaging in spiritual conversations.
SAMPLE COVERING PRAY
“Father, please cover us against the dark forces in this place. We put on the full armor of God, so we may stand our ground against the schemes of the enemy. We stand firm and clothe ourselves with the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, the gospel shoes, and the shield of faith to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. We repent of any sin that we intentionally or unintentionally committed and take our stand in the authority and power of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. We know that the battle is the Lord’s and will humbly submit to His strategies to take this space. We take up the sword of the Spirit and invite your Kingdom to come and will to be done in us today!”
SAMPLE CLEANSING PRAYER
Father, we just ask you to put the cross of Jesus and what Jesus did on the cross between us and everyone we’ve been in contact with today. Cleanse from our spirits any grief, sorrow, pain, anger, chaos, confusion, oppression, depression, rage, wrath, any voodoo, hexes, incantations, word curses, white witchcraft, or anything like these that have been prayed against us.
