Capturing Rebellious Thoughts

Tuesdays are important corporate days of Prayer and Fasting for the Kansas City Underground. On these days, we unite our voices around a central theme. This week we focus our prayer and fasting on Capturing Rebellious Thoughts

Today’s Scripture: 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

Strategic Focus: Capturing Rebellious Thoughts

Read: Read both translations of 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5

Reflect and journal:
What are God’s mighty weapons? What are the weapons of the world? What’s the difference between them?

Pray:
Ask God to forgive you for using worldly weapons to try to fight battles on your own. Ask Him to reveal to you His specific mighty weapons you may not have journaled about. Ask Him to show you how He wants you to use His weapons.

Reflect and journal:
What are the current strongholds/ false arguments/rebellious thoughts in my life?

Pray:
Read your list of current strongholds out loud to God. Talk to Him about them in an open, transparent, vulnerable way. It’s amazing how much space we give these false arguments in our minds. It’s also amazing how much power they lose when we voice them and supplicate the God of the Universe for help.

Listening Prayer:
Ask God, β€œWhat knowledge are you trying to impart to me? What does it mean for me to know you in these areas of my strongholds/false arguments/ rebellious thoughts? Now listen...

Reflect and Journal:
What is the β€œknowledge of God” that He is trying to impart to you? What does it mean for you to know God in the areas of these strongholds/false arguments/rebellious thoughts?

Reflect and journal: How do I capture/take captive rebellious thoughts?

Pray: Ask God to reveal ways you have not yet thought of to take your rebellious thoughts captive. Ask Him to give you His strength to take them captive.

Read: Reread both translations of 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

Reflect and journal: How do I teach/train my rebellious thoughts to be obedient to Christ? What does this look like specifically in my life?

Pray: Talk with God about the ways you brainstormed to teach your rebellious thoughts to obey Christ. Ask Him if there are other ways to train them.

Implement one of these ways this week.
